Media Connected Home – Part 1

Posted on 15th April 2013

The way that we access media has been changing over the years. The ways of the DVD, and even the Blu-Ray, are starting to die as the preferred method of accessing media. With the invention of Netflix, CinemaNow, and even the older On Demand, the DVD and Blu-Ray have become less desirable. The DVR is now a home entertainment staple for keeping up to date with favorite shows.

What about accessing this media in different locations like on your smartphone or tablet? How about on another TV in your home? Some cable services offer whole home DVR which is a great way to watch your recorded media in different rooms instead of just one. What if your provider doesn’t offer it? How about if you are on the road? What if that episode is not available on Netflix or Hulu? What if a movie you want to watch while on the road is not synced to your smartphone or tablet? How about if it is not on Netflix or CinemaNow? Using a SlingBox to access your recorded programming but running out of space?

A Media Connected Home is the solution.

Microsoft Surface – Windows 8 RT

Posted on 3rd January 2013

When Microsoft announced that they would be releasing their own Windows 8 RT tablet, the buzz was that it had the potential to compete with the Apple iPad, especially in the business world.

Microsoft has since released their tablet to the masses. Available in 32 and 64 Gb models, does this tablet have the muscle to compete in an already saturated tablet market? Does it make it a closer race for the Windows platform against the Apple iPad?

Weeks with the iPhone 5

Posted on 11th November 2012

I have been using the white iPhone 5, 64Gb on AT&T for about 6 weeks. In this time, I have been able to get a good handle on how this device works.  There are a few likes and dislikes about this phone compared to the iPhone 4. This includes the fabled new maps application, find my friends, and widescreen retina display.

Hackintosh 10.8.2 Upgrade

Apple has released yet another update to it’s popular OSX operating system. Is there any coincidence that they released this around the same time that iOS6 hits the mobile devices? The answer is no. With Passport, Facebook, and Twitter integration, it only makes sense to add these features to their computer operating system as well. See the official Apple changelog for the full list of details here.

As for updating your custom-built hackintosh, eveything should go through ok, but always make sure that you have an alternative way to boot the system in case something goes wrong. You can download this update from the Software Update app or download the official combo update from Apple’s website over here.
